about one another
Good design. Designed for good.
The seed for One Another was planted after our trip to India where we had been working with not-for-profit Opportunity International.
After witnessing first-hand the harsh realities of living in poverty, we knew we had to do something. On our return, we decided to do something tangible and embraced the entrepreneurial spirit of the women in India by launching our own ethical label.
With our backgrounds in graphic design, photography and fashion, we knew we wanted to combine our love of design with the traditional artisan techniques of the women to create products that not only look good but do good!
We currently work with four collectives, that combined provides work for over 30 women. These women may be widowed or have parents too sick to work, we provide fair pay, safe and clean working conditions and the option to work at home, should they need to care for their family. This simple thing which we take for granted, empowers the women to rise above poverty to dream new dreams for themselves and their families.
Our range focuses on texture and embraces the unique qualities of producing everything by hand. The perfect embroidery is hand stitched in India, the beautiful loop weaving and woven bowls are from South Africa, the hand loomed wool throws are from near the Nepal border and the braided cushions are hand made by women rescued from trafficking in Bangladesh.
When you buy something from One Another, you're not just buying a cushion or a throw because behind every product is a person and your purchase does make a difference.
We know that we aren't going to change the world but we know that we can change the lives of these women, one cushion, throw and clutch at a time.
